Bayern Munich has decided to no longer extend the contract of Mark Van Bommel. Following this decision, the Dutch decided to leave this winter the team with whom he spent four years and a half , managing to make an event in 2008 and 2010 and in which he played last year's Champions League final . The new destination of the World's vice champion is Series A. Van Bommel agreed with the group that is first in the Italian league, AC Milan, for a contract that expires on June 30, 2011.
Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, said that it was normal to allow the Dutchman to consider other offers:
"It was Mark's request to interrupt at this point the contract with us to be able to transfer to AC Milan for sport reasons. Mark has always been a model, an important and successful player for Bayern, and more than that, he was a great captain. For these reasons I accepted his request."
Van Bommel said he was pleased by the club's reaction:
" I am a proud captain and the club did not put any drag on my departure. I am very pleased with the way Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has treated me , he deserves all my respect. I will not talk about my leaving reasons ."
The Dutchman will not forget the time spent with the Bavarian group:
"I leave Bayern Munich with a heavy heart, but with my head held high. I had four and a half years of success here, for which I want to thank the fans. Bayern will always have a place in my heart."
