  • Monday evening, with a few hours before the end of the transfer period, Abramovich made a great hit. He bought Torres from Liverpool for 58.5 million euros, the largest sum ever paid on a player from an English team. The Spanish striker, idol on"Anfield"after his arrival from Atletico Madrid in 2007, risks becoming a new Figo case .
British football went crazy. It has its own rules and view about financial  fair play required by  Platini. Despite the fact that Britain, like many other countries goes through a difficult period, this winter mercato meant a record of 262 million euros spent on players. This record is  58 million more than the previous record set in January 2008. Exactly as much as Abramovich has given for Torres.
Torres's transfer shocked the most because the Spaniard has declared many times his "love" for Liverpool, where he  quickly became one of "The Kop"  idols, after arriving from Atletico in the summer of 2007. It was the first player who scored 20 goals in his debut season after Robbie Fowler (1995-1996), then the striker who got the fastest to 50 goals in Liverpool's shirt. And Abramovich's preference for "El Nino"  seems also normal. Torres has scored for Chelsea seven goals in eight games including a "double" at the last battle, in November, in Premier League at Anfield.
It's understandable that at 26 years, being an European and world champion with Spain, he got bored waiting for nonexistent performances at Liverpool. The striker says he has one more goal, as a player.
"My dream is to win the Champions League.I am sure that I can achieve that at Chelsea", said "El Nino". It's  not understandable why he chose Chelsea,  instead of a big team from outside England. Liverpool fans have already burned his T-shirt. Most likely, on February 6 they will show how much they loved him at the game from the "Stamford Bridge".
"I am happy that I signed with Chelsea. It is one of the biggest teams in the world, always fighting for a trophy. It is not ideal for me that we will play against Liverpool after two rounds, but I hope to score.", said Fernando Torres .
"We are sorry that Torres left, but there is no player in the world more important  than Liverpool  club."said Kenny Dalglish.
